Rainiers Erupt For 16 Hits, 14 Runs In Reno

On Wednesday night the Tacoma Rainiers did exactly what a team needs to do to

On Wednesday night the Tacoma Rainiers did exactly what a team needs to do to win a game at high-elevation Greater Nevada Field in Reno: score a lot of runs, and then after that keep scoring a lot more runs.

Tacoma used a seven-run sixth inning to take the lead over the Aces, and then tacked on three more runs in the seventh on the way to a 14-6 victory. The win evened the series at a game apiece heading into tonight's contest.

The Rainiers offensive outburst included 16 hits, with only one of them a homer. Taylor Trammell hit the first pitch of the game for a solo shot, and then the next 15 hits were all singles and doubles.

During a stretch that began with the start of the fourth inning and lasting until the end of the seventh, every time the Rainiers put a ball in play it went for a hit. Literally.

All three outs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings were strikeouts – as well as the first two outs of the seventh. Scattered among those 11 strikeouts, Tacoma put 11 balls in play and every one was a single or double. The team also drew seven walks during that period, and scored 12 runs. The string finally ended when Trammell lined out to the first baseman to end the top of the seventh.

Tacoma looks to keep the offense going in tonight's game starting at 6:35.
