Construction Moves to the Top of Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom

Construction has moved up to the top of Splash Mountain as it is transformed

Construction has moved up to the top of Splash Mountain as it is transformed into Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom.

We’ve seen plenty of work on the ground since Splash Mountain closed just a few weeks ago.

The water ride was drained and crews constructed pathways across the trough with wooden planks and scaffolding.

We saw a few crew members working in the small rock tunnel after the big drop.

They were looking up at the ceiling of the tunnel and had what looked like a jack with them.

The crew members and the jack stood on a tarp to catch debris.

When we circled back to this spot a few minutes later, the crew members had moved the jack closer to the rock wall.

Another crew member was at a wheelbarrow holding things wrapped in black tarp — maybe debris or equipment.

A ladder sits on the hill of the final drop, with a large rectangle of black fabric in a frame behind it.

This is also where rockwork has been partially demolished.

A large chunk of fake rock has been torn out, revealing the steel framework and a wooden box beneath.

More wooden boxes sit to the sides of the track.

Looking up, construction materials have arrived at the top of the hill.

Scaffolding and a blue tarp stretch across the opening of the final drop, protecting crew members and blocking work from guest view.

More scaffolding fences and scrim line the highest sections of exterior track/trough.

Scaffolding has been erected around this tree and birdhouses. Similar birdhouses were removed from the Splash Mountain queue.

From other vantage points, we can see just how much scaffolding and scrim wraps around the ride.

For now, there isn't significant construction or demolition work visible at these high-up points.

We also found a spot to get a better look at this tree and birdhouses.

A section of scaffolding reaches out from the main structure to create a platform under one branch and birdhouse.

Back on the ground, some Splash Mountain signage still remains near the entrance to the ride.

The main sign was removed, as was the statue of the ride's main characters.

We expect this Splash Mountain signage to be gone soon, too.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure will replace Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom and at Disneyland Park in California. A closing date for the Disneyland ride has not been announced, but rumors indicate it will close in May.

Disney says that in the upcoming attraction, guests will "join Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis during Mardi Gras season as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans." It's scheduled to open in late 2024.
